  • 21. März 2014: Eine außergewöhnliche Anzahl von 29 italienischen Gesetzgebern hat eine parlamentarische Gruppe von Unterstützern für die Sache der Cuban Five gebildet. Solidarity with the Cuban Five grows

in the Italian Parliament

 

An extraordinary number of 29 Italian legislators now make up the Parliamentary Group In Support of the Cause of the Cuban Five, an initiative unveiled last February thanks to the combined efforts of organizations and personalities in solidarity with the island in this European country.

 

This is the first initiative of its kind since 2008, and in this circumstance the current group is composed of politicians of various parties, and some are very notable personalities in Italian politics.

 

The principal promoters are the National Italy-Cuba Friendship Association and Senator Daniela Valentini, the first signer of the initiative.

 

Another important support has been by the firm GREGOR SRL, which offered 50 free billboards in the city of Rome to place the pictures and message of the Cuban Five.

 

The following are the names and responsibilities of the members of the Parliamentary Group:

 

1- Daniela Valentini, Senator, Secretary of the Democratic Party Group, Member of the Extraordinary Commission for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights.

2- Albano Donatella, Democratic Party Senator, woman leader in the struggle against the mafia, member of the Permanent Committee on Agriculture and Agricultural Food Production; member of the ninth Parliamentary Commission of Research into the phenomenon of the mafia and other criminal organizations, including foreign ones.

3- Silvana Amati, Democratic Party Senator, Secretary of the Senate Presidency, member of the Extraordinary Commission for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights.

4- Battista Lorenzo, Senator of the Mixed Group, member of the Italian Parliament’s Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO.

5- Capacchione Rosaria, Democratic Party Senator, journalist with a long history of struggle against the mafia and the Camorra; member of the Permanent Committee on Agriculture and Agricultural Food Production; member of the ninth Parliamentary Commission of Research into the phenomenon of the mafia and other criminal organizations, including foreign ones.

6- Carella Renzo, Democratic Party Deputy, member of the Electoral Committee for Delegates.

7- Cervellini Massimo, Senatorial mixed group, member of the Italian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council.

8- Chiti Vannino, Democratic Party Senator, President of the 14th Permanent Commission (European Union policies).

9- Stefano Fassina, Democratic Party Deputy, economist, member of the XIV Commission (EU policies).

10- Maria Coscia, Democratic Party Deputy, Head of the Education Commission.
