Join us in the streets to say:
No War on Syria!
Dear friends of the Cuban Five:
The National Committee to Free the Cuban Five is busy working across the United States and with supporters worldwide on numerous forums, rallies, and other activities in September and October to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the unjust imprisonment of the Cuban Five, and dedicating ourselves ever more to their freedom.

But even in these moments, as the war drums are sounding louder in the White House and halls of Congress, we also urge all supporters of the Cuban Five to join us in the streets to help prevent the impending U.S. attack on Syria. The Five and the Cuban people represent the best ideals of peace and solidarity (see below for the excellent statement from Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and it is just and appropriate that we take part in anti-war actions.

This Saturday, Sept. 7, a crucial mass march and rally will take place in Washington, DC at 12 noon. Major mass rallies will also be held in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and other cities across the nation – you’ll find a list of some of them by clicking here.  The ANSWER Coalition (Act Now To Stop War and End Racism), of which the National Committee is a part, has very often invited us to speak at antiwar rallies. ANSWER recognizes that the imprisonment of the Five is part of the same Washington policies that also manifests themselves in the blockade of Cuba and numerous wars and occupations. Read ANSWER’s statement about the military threat against Syria here.

Join us in the streets this Saturday to say
“No to war against Syria” and “Free the Cuban Five!”

Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba has learned of, with profound concern, the statement made on August 31st by Barack Obama, President of the United States, in which he announced his decision to launch military actions against the Syrian Arab Republic.
Without leaving any margin whatsoever for attempts underway to reach a political solution to the conflict, or presenting any kind of evidence, and with total disrespect for the opinions of many countries – including some of his principal allies – and the United Nations, the President of the United States has announced his decision to engage in actions in violation of the international law and the UN Charter, which will inevitably provoke more death and destruction and will unavoidably lead to an intensification of the existing conflict in this Arab nation.
Cuba urges peace and religious leaders, youth and students, workers, artists and academics, social movements, progressive forces and all those who reject war, to mobilize in opposition to the decision made by the President of the United States to attack the Arab nation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also calls for the preservation of Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, the right to self-determination of its people and the promotion of a solution to the conflict through the diplomatic channels, without further bloodshed.
