US Remains Stuck in the Past
Saul Landau / Nelson Valdéz (Counterpunch, 3 June 2011)
Undoubtedly an interesting article. One shouldn’t underestimate the fact however, that the EXTEND to which the Cuban government has given religion and religious freedom a space in Cuban society, may be a matter of great concern to many of those who still back the values of the Cuban revolution. The development of revolutionary ideas has but seldom proved to be a good match with the church. (“Operation Peter Pan” is just one example.) To ask an offensive question: How can a socialist Cuba benefit from a risky move that is (as the article itself says) totally neglected and ignored by the western media?
